Summary:
To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability for expressing himself creatively in
visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the
pupil’s interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to
discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering,
design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art to secondary pupils,
following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate
learning activities.
2. Instructs pupils in basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative
regulations and procedures of the school district.
3. Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and
appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
4. Demonstrates technique in activities such as drawing, painting, sculpture,
photography and computer generated graphics, using standard and teacher-prepared
instructional aides.
5. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced
program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
6. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum
to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate
a variety of instructional activities.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an
orderly and productive studio environment.
8. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
9. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to
prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
10. Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic
understandings and prepares progress reports.
11. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aides,
and maintains required inventory records.
12. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils’ work
for the school and the community. May sponsor exhibits from outside.

13. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities
provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
14. Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of
pupils absent each period.
15. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the
method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
16. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
17. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school
of assignment or on a district level.
18. Other duties as assigned by the administrator.
Supervisory Duties
Supervises students at all times.


Qualifications
Education/Experience/Certificates
Bachelor’s Degree and valid Missouri teaching certificate required; or such alternative
to these qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Skills and Abilities
Language
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy,
administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be
able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with
parents. Must have the ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.
Computation
The individual must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as
probability and statistical inference; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,
ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Must be able to apply knowledge of current educational theory and
instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.
Technology
The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing and
internet use. Will be using district software for recording grades and finding student
information.
Physical Demands

The individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an
environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place
simultaneously; must be able to move around the classroom; must be able to read

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is
noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short
periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading buses and recess duty.
Terms of Employment
9 months (in this case: prorated for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year).

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board
