Job Title: Summer School Teacher
Reports To: Principal
Supervises: Para-professionals, students
Terms of Employment: 18 days
Salary: $30/hr ($4,320 total contract)
Job Goal: To provide a quality instructional program for students in a safe, orderly, and positive school environment through the creation and execution of engaging, standards-aligned coursework, measurable student growth, and enriched learning experiences.
Application & Selection Process
This is a proposal-based selection process, not based on seniority.
- Course Design: Teachers are responsible for creating engaging classes that align with the Missouri Learning Standards for the grade level they intend to teach.
- Promotion: Applicants must submit a 15–20 second advertisement video promoting their class to the student body.
- Enrollment Requirement: A class must have at least 20 students rostered to officially "make."
Field Trips & Enrichment
Summer school includes a robust activities schedule. Teachers are responsible for supervising students during the following:
- Weekly Pool Trips: One trip to the local pool per week.
- Kindergarten Specialty Trip: Kindergarten classes will visit the Bennett Springs Splash Pad.
- Curriculum-Related Trip: Each class is allotted one (1) bus field trip to a destination of the teacher's choice, provided it directly relates to the specific class/subject being taught.
Certification Requirements
All teachers must hold the appropriate Missouri teacher certification at the proper level and academic area of service as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Budget & Supplies
- Supply Allowance: Teachers have a budget of $100.00.
- Requisition Deadlines: Submit to Jentry by May 15th (Online) or June 5th (Local Walmart).
- Reimbursement Policy: There will be no reimbursement for personal funds spent on supplies.
Educational Data & Assessment
- Teachers are required to administer a pretest and a posttest.
- All assessment data must be submitted to administration by the close of summer school on June 25th.
Salary & Payment Schedule
- Rate: $30 per hour (8 hours/day = $240.00).
- Total: 18 days @ $240/day = $4,320.00.
- Payment: Checks will be issued on the last day of summer school.
Performance Responsibilities
- Implement board and administration policies.
- Guide students in the learning process to achieve Missouri Learning Standards.
- Create a safe, orderly, and positive environment for learning.
- Maintain good discipline in the classroom, school, and during off-site field trips.
- Be a positive role model for students and peers.
- Accurately maintain records, including student progress, grades, and attendance.
- Foster communication and cooperation between the home and school.
- Maintain professional working relationships with staff and para-professionals.
- Participate in the feedback cycle of summer school programs.
- Follow all requirements set forth by DESE and district board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
