TITLE: Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent desirable.
2. Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.
3. Be able to work cooperatively with others.
4. Such additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Head Maintenance/Daytime Custodian and School Principal
JOB GOAL: To maintain the physical school plant. To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn and work.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Keeps building and premises including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
2. Keeps walkways and driveways, parking areas and steps free of ice and snow when appropriate.
3. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
4. Sweeps classrooms daily and takes out the garbage. Cleans corridors in all buildings each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
5. Scrubs and disinfects toilets and floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily in all buildings. During outbreaks of flu etc. this may be done more frequently.
6. Washes all windows on both sides at least once each year and more frequently if necessary or as directed.
7. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
8.Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
9. Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
10. Sweeps and mops floors daily.
11. Prepares facilities for after school activities (concerts, ballgames, etc.)
12. Assists school personnel in maintaining order.
13. Reports repairs needed to the superintendent.
14. Reports immediately to the superintendent any damage to school property.
15. Assumes responsibility for the opening and/o closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.
16. Performs such grounds-keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, etc. as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
17. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the superintendent.
18. Ensures that quality of work is excellent.
19. Wears all safety equipment.
20. Keeps the superintendentand principal informed about condition of the buildings and grounds.
21. Replace light bulbs, pencil sharpeners, and other minor maintenance items as needed.
22. Clean and store all tools and equipment after use. Keep storage area clean and organized with doors closed and locked at all times.
23. Summer cleaning of all rooms and hallways from floor to ceiling.
24. Fulfill maintenance work orders.
25. Follow all requirements set forth by DESE and District Board Policies.
26. Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Education or administration.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve month employment.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of District Board Policy.
